Early in 2022, Hill & Wilkinson completed construction on the brand-new City of Garland Animal Shelter and Adoption Center. We had the privilege of sitting down with the shelter staff to hear how this new facility has impacted their experience serving animals in their community and their future families. Click on the video below for the full interview.
This project is a 24,000 sf, state-of-the-art animal shelter and adoption center providing housing for 220 dogs and 140 cats. The new facility includes adoption suites, dog and cat bonding suites, outdoor animal play areas, and a large medical suite serving as a spay and neuter clinic. The animal shelter and adoption center also include volunteer facilities, administration offices, and a community room that will be used for public, private, and educational events.
“Hill & Wilkinson provided great customer service from the beginning, all the way to the end,” Arte Munoz, the Director of Garland Animal Services said. “The availability [and] the dependability was on point on a daily basis. Building this shelter was a big project. Being able to work side-by side with them, knowing that I could contact them in a second, that’s phenomenal.”
The facility construction elements include exposed natural timbers, glulam lumber beams, stone, metal panels, and split-face CMU façade. There is ample natural daylight, with skylights and windows throughout the entire facility, which is an important design element intended to enhance the well-being of the occupants, animals, and humans alike.
“This is great for the community and our animals,” Arte continued. “But not only that, this is great for our staff.”
