We’re proud to announce that Shoreline City Church has earned us the TEXO Distinguished Building Merit Award in the $10-$30 million category!
In February 2023, we began renovating Shoreline City Church, transforming a 1980s building into a modern, vibrant space. The 120,000 sf project included a worship center, NextGen Kids’ area, AVL spaces, an indoor playground, and a renovated café.
This project was full of exciting challenges and firsts, starting with our company’s first use of Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). This approach prioritized lean tools, including daily huddles, weekly work planning, and the use of Percent Plan Complete (PPC) to identify areas for improvement. By focusing on teamwork, daily check-ins, and smart planning, we kept everything on track and running smoothly.
We also sourced high-quality materials from overseas and carefully managed the storage and reuse of existing seating. Since the church was built in 1980, we uncovered a few surprises—like a hidden sump pit and outdated utilities—that needed creative solutions. The height of the worship space required an extensive scaffolding setup, and with a daycare next door, we worked strategically to keep everything safe and disruption-free.
Quick thinking and real-time collaboration were key to making owner-requested changes seamless. After discussing the vision on-site, the architect quickly sketched options, estimates were prepared, and the final plan was approved via FaceTime—all within six hours. FaceTime and text messaging also kept the out-of-town design team in the loop, allowing for fast adjustments to unexpected challenges. This responsive approach ensured every detail aligned with the church’s vision without delaying progress.
Every detail mattered in this project, from the precise placement of each stone and tile to the intricate flooring design. A custom-designed playground, thoughtfully developed over several months, added a special touch. Daily quality checks ensured every finish met the highest standards, creating a space that’s both beautiful and built to last.
By working together through the IPD approach, Shoreline City Church, Parkhill, Hill & Wilkinson, and our trade partners completed the project nearly two months early. This was vital, allowing the church to host its first Christmas Eve service after selling its previous facility. Quick problem-solving and seamless coordination kept everything on track, making the early finish possible.
This project was more than a renovation—it was about creating a new home for Shoreline’s growing congregation. We’re grateful for the partnership and trust in bringing this vision to life!
