National Hispanic Heritage Month

Employee Spotlight: Cristian Carranza

What country is your family from?

My family is from the great state of Guerrero, Mexico. I’m from there myself.

What is one of your favorite cultural traditions that your family celebrates?

Las Posadas would be my favorite cultural tradition. Las Posadas is very similar to Christmas caroling. Las Posadas is celebrated each year from mid-December up until the night of December 24.

How do you celebrate a special occasion? What types of foods are cooked and which is your favorite?

Las Posadas is celebrated for about a week. We celebrate with family and friends everyone participating offers their home for an evening of food, music, and singing if you are up for it. The food is the best, there are all kinds of tamales, pozole, menudo, tacos, mole, hot chocolate, candy, etc. It can go on and on sometimes, but I don’t complain!

What languages are spoken at home?

Spanish and English

Who is your favorite Hispanic author/artist?

I have many favorite artists, but if I were to choose one it would be Mana. They are a Mexican Rock band. I like them because they aren’t too intense or loud and they make great music!

Name a place from your country that you wish people could experience.

There is a lot to do in Guerrero, but I think people should visit The Cacahuamilpa Caves.

Name your favorite place to eat authentic Hispanic food in DFW.

I just moved up here from Houston so I’m going to need a little more time before I find a great place.

How many years have you worked with H&W?

I have worked with H&W for four months now.

Which H&W Value most resonates with you?

I appreciate all of the H&W values, but growth is my favorite because I love learning and I want to become the best version of myself.
