The Jesuit College Preparatory School Natatorium received a 2022 TEXO Distinguished Building Award of Merit!
This project is a 30,000 sf, three-story, stand-alone natatorium constructed in the center of the existing campus and adjacent to the football stadium. The facility features a 450,000-gallon, nine-lane competition pool, separate three-lane warm-up pool, elevated bleacher section, concession area, lounge area, locker rooms, restrooms, and administrative offices.
Some unique features of this project include the state-of-the-art competition pools, designed by Myrtha Pools and manufactured in Italy, as well as cantilevered concrete beams to eliminate the need for a column, which would have blocked the view of some spectators. In addition, the Paddock Deck Drain Evacuation System around both pools provides an energy-neutral solution for the best indoor air quality possible for the swimmers.
The team faced several challenges with logistics and phasing during construction, the biggest of which was the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the team was able to build the natatorium in the center of an active campus without disrupting normal activities and the project was completed on schedule.
