Recruiting & Career Fairs

Every year, H&W employees look forward to returning to their alma maters to visit with students who are considering careers in construction. Our recruiting trips span the country and target students who are a strong culture fit and are pursuing degrees in everything from construction management to business. Our strong reputation in the industry and within our H&W family results in our greatest recruiting and retention tool: employee referrals. Working with like-minded individuals leads to a higher level of career satisfaction. If your values and work ethic align with ours, we would love to have a conversation with you about opportunities to join our team.

How did you become interested in a career in construction?
My dad was in construction, so I grew up playing with submittal samples and practicing my art skills on jobsite whiteboards. My original plan was to be a math teacher, but in college I had my first internship with a general contractor and loved the tangible aspect of construction. I enjoyed the problem solving, teamwork, and the critical path nature of the industry.
What is your favorite thing about what you do?
I love being part of a team. My favorite types of projects are churches and schools because of the excitement when the doors open for the first time. We are building for the future, and that is so positive. I am thrilled to be in my new role where I can support our teams in what they do!
What advice would you give someone who is just starting their career?
Get involved. Find an organization that helps you grow both personally and professionally. Don’t underestimate the connections you make at the start of your career. It is a small world out there! I would also add to always ask questions! Wherever you are in your career, ask questions! That is how we all continue to learn.
