Progress in the Field

January 31, 2023

With a new year comes a new batch of projects for Hill & Wilkinson. We’re excited to begin work at TWU in Denton, St. Edward’s University in Austin, Shop LC in Cedar Park, and additional projects located in the cities of Garland, Richardson, Plano, and Rockwall. In addition to these exciting new projects, we have a plethora of ongoing projects from a variety of markets making progress in the field.

To start off, our manufacturing division is going full steam ahead. Our confidential manufacturing facility in Alvarado, Texas recently had escalators installed and is working towards substantial completion in April of this year.

Our ongoing work with Encore Wire in McKinney, Texas continues an over 20-year relationship. The Shipping and Receiving Gate project is underway andexpected to complete in early June, while the team at the XLPE Compounding Plant just completed the roof work and is now building out the office space.

Jumping down to Central Texas, we have several manufacturing projects underway. The Fat Quarter Shop in Kyle, Texas received the necessary permit and began foundation work at the end of January, and the Carr Lane Manufacturing project in Elgin, Texas is set to erect tilt-wall panels after the winter weather passes through. In Temple, Texas, Niagara Bottling’s Project Ripple is making infrastructure improvements, pouring new foundations for new equipment, and installing new dock equipment and a new cooling tower.

Switching gears to our healthcare division, we are thrilled to begin our first project ever with Cook Children’s. We will be building a pediatric clinic in Celina, Texas. This new project will be a 5,900 sf interior-finish-out of an existing building, and the space includes new exam rooms, a vitals area, and a staff break room. Our projects with Children’s Health are moving along, with the Transport Access Center Facility in Dallas set to begin soon and the UTSW project set to complete construction in February. We’re also working on a $2 million build-out for Children’s Plano Pulmonary Clinic.

We have several projects in our institutional division, starting off with our ongoing phased project with Richardson ISD for JJ Pearce High School. Phase 1, which included a storm shelter and new baseball/softball fields, is complete, and phase 2 is currently 20 percent complete.

Also in the education market, our team at Ursuline Academy of Dallas just finished phase 5, which is an interior renovation of the existing locker rooms as well as a portion of the main classroom corridor and classrooms. The Jesuit Forestwood Fieldhouse is well underway, with the structure complete and being dried in. This new, 26,000 sf addition to the campus will include new locker rooms, a golf simulator, crew/cycling training areas, coaches’ offices, and a maintenance bay.

Base contract work for the Texas Tech HSC in Dallas is now complete, which includes exterior façade work. The team is currently renovating the 6th-floor classroom space. Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas, Texas is now six weeks into construction, while the structure for Austin Stone Church in Austin, Texas is close to being complete and roof work will begin soon. In the municipal market, the Haltom City Law Enforcement Center is moving along with work continuing on the elevated concrete structure. The team over at Downtown Garland Square has already completed and turned over phases one and two out of five. This project is a 15-block redevelopment of Downtown Garland square and surrounding areas. The scope includes new streetscape and infrastructure, and construction is anticipated to be completed in Fall 2023.

And lastly, rounding out project updates with our commercial division, the momentum of the concrete structure remains strong at the over 800,000 sf Collin Creek East Garage project.

We are thrilled to get to continue to work with all our wonderful clients and trade partners on these special projects. We look forward to the progress that is yet to be made in 2023!
