H&W Celebrates Completion of Garland Holford Recreation & Aquatic Center

June 25, 2025

We are proud to announce the successful completion of the City of Garland’s new, innovative recreation and aquatic center — a transformative community space designed to promote health, wellness, and connection among residents of all ages.

The two-story, 37,300-square-foot recreation center is packed with amenities, including a double gymnasium, an elevated walking track, modern fitness and exercise rooms, flexible game and multi-purpose rooms, and a rooftop patio with views overlooking the adjacent Aquatic Center and athletic fields.

In tandem with the recreation center, the project also includes a thoughtfully designed Aquatic Center. The expansive leisure pool offers lap lanes, a gentle water channel, open swim areas, and two waterslides. Also featured are a 2,600-square-foot administration building with offices, a party room, a guard room, and concessions, alongside a 2,800-square-foot restroom and pool equipment building with family-friendly changing facilities. Canopies and cantilevered shade structures provide comfortable seating areas throughout the space.

The site is further enhanced with parking for over 400 vehicles, two outdoor basketball courts, and three pickleball courts — ensuring ample space for community engagement and recreation.

As always, over the course of this project, we enjoyed our close, collaborative relationship with the City of Garland. “Hill & Wilkinson has been a great partner with the City of Garland,” said D’Lee Williams, Managing Director of Garland Parks & Recreation. “If there have been challenges that have popped up, they’ve always come to us with, ‘Here are some different ways we can look at this and address the issues.’ The projects have always been top notch and something that our residents can be proud of.”

“We have been very fortunate to have a longstanding relationship with the City of Garland,” reminisced Hill & Wilkinson Vice President, Jim Sackett. “We’ve done over 30 projects for the city over the past 25 years. It’s pretty unique that they used the rec and aquatic facility for 55 years prior to us building this new facility, and that it’s going to be used for another 55-plus years for this community, where families and friends are coming together to have a good time, get physically fit, and get healthier.”

From early planning to final completion, our team remained committed to delivering a facility that would not only meet the city’s vision but also provide lasting value to the community. This project demonstrates our commitment to building spaces that enrich lives and strengthen communities.
